What Paul Krugman describes here is a worrying pattern of American aversion to reason. Ignorance conjoined with arrogance and beamed to the world via C-SPAN from Congress can be deadly. Starting with Reagan and then George W, the politics of fear, headless ideology and blind faith have converged to create an environment hostile to rational argument. How shameful for the country that has the best schools and the most Nobel Prize winners.
