If too much forest is removed it outweighs the benefits from agriculture. If important ecosystem services are not included markets or other institutions then people lack incentives to optimally manage their shared environment. As far as I know, the freer trade agriculture uses the enviroment with efectiveness, rather the trade taxes, goberment's control etc. Wich ’substancial impacts’ do you refer to?.
